OBD II Code Readers Pinpoint Problems

Wednesday, February 7th, 2007

Modern cars include dozens of sensors designed to detect problems. When one of these sensors discovers that something’s wrong, it alerts your car’s computer and illuminates the “check engine” light. OBD II code readers are devices that attach to your car’s on-board computer and report the contents of its memory in the form of diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). For a skilled mechanic (or curious owner), these codes can greatly simplify trouble diagnosis and can often pinpoint precisely what’s wrong with the car. In addition, code readers have the ability to clear the codes from the computer, turning off the “check engine” light.

Amazon Customer Review: If you are planning to buy a car, you should buy this book first. Written in plain, understandable English, and packed full of information not only about what to do if your car turns out to be a lemon, but also how to avoid buying a lemon in the first place, Steve Lehto’s book is a much-needed, non-technical guide to automobile law. Lehto provides the relevant information in the clearest possible manner, on legal terms, on the process of repair and replacement of a lemon, on the “tricks” many unscrupulous dealers use to avoid responsibility, on “Lemon Laws Around the Nation” - on every aspect of automobile law you need to know to become an empowered consumer, and take control of the situation. The extensive appendices, such as a “Sample Last Chance Letter,” and “Internet Resources,” are especially useful. Highly recommended!

Cubic Zirconia Engagement Ring

Monday, January 22nd, 2007

Many women wish for an expensive engagement ring, but I am not one of them. To me, there are better things to spend money on, and a ring means the same thing not matter how much it costs. There are so many men that stress about getting an expensive engagement ring, and they may be surprised to know that their intended may not be as concerned with how much it costs as they may think. For some of us, it is the thought that counts, no matter how cliché that may sound. There is no sense in going broke buying an expensive engagement ring when a down payment on a house might be much more sensible. Cubic Zirconia engagement rings have the looks, fire, and brilliance of diamonds for a fraction of the cost.

I remember a guy I knew in college that was perplexed with his new fiancé, but I could tell he was pleased with her decision. She refused an expensive engagement ring, and in fact, wouldn’t take a ring from him at all. She said it was immensely impractical, and there was no sense in getting one. She wanted a Playstation game system instead. This guy didn’t have a lot of money, but he seemed willing to go into debt to get her an expensive engagement ring. He was very relieved he didn’t have to get one, even if he wouldn’t admit that to her.

There is nothing wrong with buying an expensive engagement if your intended really wants one, and you can afford one. However, if she is pointing out rings that are out of your price range, you may have to tell her that she needs to aim lower. She may not realize you can’t afford the expensive engagement ring she wants, and she may be very agreeable about getting something that costs a little less. If she throws a fit, perhaps you should rethink the entire affair. If she insists on an expensive engagement ring, it won’t stop there. You’ll be up to your ears in debt for the rest of your life.

You can find an expensive engagement ring if you visit a fine jeweler in your area. Some may have payment plans you can take advantage of, or you can put one on your credit card. Just make sure you can spare the cash without putting a dent into your finances that you may not be able to repair.

Wanna’ Buy A Gas Station

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

For a long time, there was nothing that you could do that would help you more and give you a better promise of always making money than to buy a gas station. As long as there are cars, it seemed, there will be gas stations, and people go to them every day. If you buy a gas station, especially on a main thoroughfare, hundreds of people will fill up at your pumps every day. If you buy gas station and then improve it by selling good snacks and drinks, and always having good hot coffee available, the appeal will be even greater. The fact is that there is no better way to make money in the service industry than to buy a gas station.

Of course, things are changing and buying gas stations seems like a riskier long term investment. No one is quite sure what will happen as the worlds supply of oil continues to slip down and down, year after year. The price will go up, and people will be more pressed to find alternative fuels. Of course, many people think that it is still a reasonable idea to buy gas station. After all, if you buy gas station, you will still have years of business before oil supplies dry up. Many investors also conclude that when they buy gas station, they are not limited by the duration of the world’s oil supplies. Once those are gone, they will be able to put in the pumps for whatever the new fuel is, be it hydrogen, or ethanol. They do not hesitate to buy gas station. After all, investing is all about taking risks, is it not? I suppose you could always find a way to get rich in the stock market.

If you do buy gas station, there are some things that you should keep in mind. Never buy gas station on a road that is not a main thoroughfare, or at least a big trucker stop. If you buy gas station there, no matter how nice you make it, no one is going to go out of their way to come there, since it makes more sense to buy gas on their way to work, or whatever. Also, it can be a good idea to buy gas station from a well known brand. People will tend to trust in it more, as they can be very particular about what they wil and what they won’t put in to their cars. You need their trust to succeed.

Collectible Watches and Grandfather Clocks

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

I’ve always appreciated the grandeur and elegance of antique grandfather clocks. Growing up in the old South, these items were commonplace in most of my friends’ homes, so I got to see a lot of different varieties and styles. As a child, I promised myself that I would always have antique grandfather clocks in whatever apartments or houses I ended up living in so that my own children could enjoy these masterpieces as much as I did.

Of course, that promise was made rather prematurely, seeing as I had no idea how much antique grandfather clocks cost! So as an adult, I lived in many different places without having the comforting presence of an antique grandfather clock to remind me of home. After a while I got used to the situation, but I always felt that something was out of place or missing.

I resolved to buy myself an antique grandfather clock as soon as I emerged from the financial hole I was in. At that time, I was still paying off student loans, had a monthly car payment, and had a brand new mortgage to think about. Plus, I was trying to start my own business on the side, so my limited income was pretty much spoken for as soon as the funds hit my bank account. As luck would have it, my business venture turned out to be moderately successful, and I soon had more disposable income to spend however I wanted.

The first thing I decided to do was check out some antique grandfather clocks that would help turn my house into a home. Even though I was doing better financially, I wasn’t exactly swimming in cash, so I was still looking for a good deal. Since I like to do all of my shopping online, I browsed through some auction sites to see what antique grandfather clocks were going for. The ones I saw cost more money than I was willing to spend, so I started looking elsewhere for antique grandfather clocks.

I then found many websites that sell replica antique grandfather clocks. These are high-quality reproductions of the classic styles that I was so familiar with. But since these replica antique grandfather clocks were manufactured relatively recently, they were priced much more reasonably. I was able to find a beautiful replica in finished mahogany for about a third of what I would have had to pay for authentic antique grandfather clocks of the same material. Having my antique grandfather clock in my home (even if it is a replica) evokes the wonderful sights and sounds of my childhood, and really takes me back to the good old days. And best of all, I was able to fulfill that old childhood promise I made to myself.

If a grandfather clock is a bit overwhelming look at recreating your grandfather’s railroad watch.

Resolution To Pay Off Credit Cards With 0% Balance Transfer

Tuesday, January 9th, 2007

One way to help pay off high interest credit card debt is to trandfer balances to a new card with a 0% balance transfer teaser. Of course this only works if you do not add to the balance of either card. It’s worth a look.
